1. GITEX GLOBAL 2024 is bringing together the international tech community under the overarching theme “Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy.” In your view, how crucial are public-private collaborations for developing the next generation of AI-powered tech solutions?

Currently, Gen AI is in its early stages of development, with rapid technological iterations and a market that is still evolving. In exploring cutting-edge technology fields, the industrial advantages of cities will play a crucial role, driving and promoting the integration and mutual enhancement of advanced technologies. Under the leadership of public institutions, multiple outstanding companies can collaborate and support each other, creating a robust electronic information industry cluster. This synergistic effect will significantly accelerate the innovation and development of artificial intelligence technologies.

2. How is the rapid advancement of AI technologies influencing your industry sector?

In 2024, not only is it the commercial debut year for 5G-A, but also a year marked by the surge in large model applications. The development of 5G and optical networks is entering a mid-stage phase. The consumer (C-end) and home markets are struggling with growth due to a lack of advanced experiences, while the business (B-end) sector faces challenges in balancing fragmentation and scalability, preventing a breakthrough.

The current wave of AI, including advancements in AI at the edge, cloud-edge collaboration, embodied intelligence, digital twins, and domain-specific applications, will further unleash network potential and accelerate value realization. At the same time, AI will assist in advancing self-intelligent networks from L3 to L4+, helping operators reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance quality. From the perspective of 5G-A and all-optical network evolution, innovations such as 10G experience, billion connections, extreme determinism, integrated sensing, and sky-ground integration will not only support the progression of AI capabilities but also better enable pervasive and inclusive intelligence.

The integration of computing power with networks, and intelligence with connectivity, is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, unleashing new forms of productivity and injecting powerful momentum into countless industries. The future is unfolding, and we are all part of it. ZTE is committed to partnering with global industry players to explore continuously, innovate persistently, and collaboratively shape a bright digital future.  

3. How is your business adopting and integrating AI innovation?

ZTE has already introduced AI to telecommunication industry.

In terms of network, ZTE has launched the Nebula Telecom Large Model in first half this year. As an accelerator for highly autonomous networks, the Nebula Telecom Large Model provides a complete system from the model to the platform and then to the application, enabling collaboration from cross-domain to single-domain through AI agents.

For example. ZTE has launched a series of "expert" AI application based on the Nebula Telecom Large Model. The Network Insight Expert, which understands user intents, breaks down workflows, and performs multi-object solutions. The application simplifies complicated network problems such as traffic excitation and network planning. In monitoring and troubleshooting scenarios, the Monitoring Expert, centered on policy agents, uses multi-agent coordination to rapidly resolve issues and coordinates large and small models to accurately diagnose faults, significantly improving end-to-end fault handling efficiency. The iAssurance Expert, relying on the closed-loop capabilities of guided plan generation and multi-agent collaboration, responds to emergencies in real time, achieving the industry's first large-model-based commercial practice in major event assurance scenarios, helping operators reduce the guaranteed workload from six man-days to one man-day.

In additional, ZTE has also proposed the 'AI for All' product strategy for terminals. ZTE continues to explore AI applications and scenarios in the terminal business, including innovations in AI Business and AI Creation, AI Simultaneous Interpretation, and AI Photography, as well as applications brought by industry-leading AI eyewear-free 3D products and solutions.  

For example, ZTE's AI Simultaneous Interpretation fully supports AI Translation by screen touch and can achieve real-time voice translation in calls and WeChat (a popular messaging and social media app in China). Impressively, it can perform face-to-face instant translation of foreign languages and dialects, including English, German, French, Japanese, Korean, and various Chinese dialects such as Cantonese, Sichuanese, and Wu. This provides significant convenience for cross-language communication in business, tourism, and other fields.  

4. Beyond AI, what innovations do you believe will shape the future of your industry and which regions do you foresee leading these advancements by 2025?

There are some new innovations shaping the industry's future, such as 

5G-Advanced and Beyond: As telecommunications technology continues to evolve, 5G-Advanced (5G-A) is set to play a pivotal role in the near future. 5G-A introduces advancements in new spectrum and capabilities, paving the way for sophisticated applications across emerging scenarios such as all-domain perception, ubiquitous intelligence, and integrated air, sky, and earth communication. It will enhance both consumer (ToC) and business (ToB) services, expanding the boundaries of 5G to support innovations like the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), low-altitude drone networks, and satellite Internet in space. Moreover, 5G-A will lay the essential groundwork for the future transition to 6G, ensuring seamless connectivity and the ability to support a massive number of connected devices.

Open Gateway: Open Gateway facilitates the development of innovative services across multiple platforms to drive new business model. It has already shown its potential in areas such as anti-scam measures, where it facilitates real-time detection and prevention of fraud activities across networks. Moreover, Open Gateway allows more secure and efficient identity management, enhancing trust in digital transactions. These practical implementations demonstrate how Open Gateway can drive innovation, improve security, and create new opportunities for collaboration across the telecommunications industry.

Digital Twin: Digital Twin technology is emerging as a crucial innovation that will drive the future of the telecommunications industry. With simulation of the impact of various strategies on network, operators can balance various factors to achieve the best possible outcomes. And by continuously analyzing real-time data and simulating different scenarios, while synergy with AI, Digital Twin allows operator for more accurate predictive maintenance, better network optimization, and faster response times to network changes.

We foresee the Middle East and Asia-Pacific as leading regions in the telecommunication industry. The Middle East, with countries like the UAE, is rapidly becoming a hub for innovation, driven by substantial investments in digital infrastructure and smart city initiatives. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region, led by tech powerhouses such as China, is advancing rapidly in 5G-Advanced and beyond, setting global benchmarks for network deployment and technology adoption. These regions are poised to drive the next wave of telecom advancements, shaping the future of global connectivity.

5. What are your motivations and expectations for coming onboard the 44th edition of GITEX GLOBAL in 2024?

GITEX is one of the largest technology events in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia (MENASA) region. It’s an important event for telecommunications providers to participate in for several reasons:

1. Networking and Partnerships: GITEX attracts a wide range of participants, including government officials, technology companies, enterprises, and industry leaders. This provides ZTE with opportunities to network, establish partnerships, and collaborate with other key players in the tech industry.

2. Showcasing Innovations: For ZTE, GITEX is a platform to showcase our latest technologies, services, and solutions. It allows ZTE to demonstrate innovations in areas such as 5G, IoT, cloud computing, and AI to a large and relevant audience.
