Akon is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice, and has produced records for artists including Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Whitney Houston. Forbes ranked Akon 80th (Power Rank) in Forbes Celebrity 100 and Billboard ranked him No. 6 on the list of Top Digital Songs Artists of the decade. Akon is currently working on Akon City, a $6 billion dollar project with water-like designs inspired by the shapes of traditional African sculptures that will be a seaside resort, a tech hub, recording studios, and “Senewood” for Senegal’s film industry. Many have drawn comparisons between Akon City and Wakanda, the utopian society in “Black Panther,” and there are plans for the city to have its own cryptocurrency, AKoin, and to franchise the concept to other countries.
