Gartner: New Tech to Take 40 Percent Share of PC Market by 2013
With millions of users already onboard and a flood of interest from small businesses to giant corporations, revenue for desktop virtualization is expected to jump to USD 65 billion in under two years, according to a leading technology analyst group, Gartner.
UAE-based Zero Technologies’ recently launched ‘zero client’ is a new type of server-based computer system, offering a viable alternative to the traditional PC.
Incorporating technology developed by the US pioneer in the field, Pano Logic, the system only requires a traditional keyboard, a mouse and a display unit and enables consumers to access and store data on a central server located anywhere in the world.
“The sharp increase in customer interest is the result of a striking surge in demand. People are becoming more aware of trends in the market, and with desktop virtualization, they are realizing that they can vastly improve their desktop management capabilities and reduce energy wastage,” said Sherif Hamed, Founder and CEO, Zero Technologies.
“Zero Technologies’ pioneering work in this area will establish the Middle East as a major player in the computing market. Customers will be able to operate more efficiently, flexibly, and reliably, making desktop virtualization an extremely attractive alternative to any desktop PC currently available.”
According to Gartner the desktop virtualization market will accelerate through 2013 to reach 49 million units with revenue share growing to around 40 percent of the worldwide professional PC market.
It estimates that approximately 15 percent of current worldwide traditional professional desktop PCs will migrate to desktop virtualization by 2014, equal to about 66 million connected devices.
By taking the need for things like virus protection, firewalls, and software updates out of the equation, the benefits of ‘zero client’ are immediately apparent. Computing infrastructure and maintenance costs are also dramatically reduced and energy consumption is slashed by 95 percent when compared to a PC.
Zero Technologies has become the Middle East’s first company to manufacture and export consumer electronics that are wholly-owned by a regional company.
Crafted by award winning Silicon Valley industrial design firm, Whipsaw, Zero Technologies’ system centers around a small box (zero client device) that attaches to specially designed monitors of varying sizes (client systems) to run on 99 percent of all hypervisor infrastructures, including VMware, Microsoft HyperV, and Citrix XenServer.
The zero client device can also be disconnected and used as a stand–alone device, connecting to any monitor, keyboard, mouse, and ethernet port.
Zero Technologies will be showing its prototype design at GITEX next week at its exhibition stand in the main concourse hall.

About Zero Technologies
Zero Technologies is a new type of server-based computer system, offering a brilliant
alternative to the traditional PC. It is a Zero Client – a minimal device with no software, operating system, CPU, or memory. Zero Technologies is a modular and integrated Zero Client system, complete with displays and peripherals. At a glance ZT looks like a computer but perched above and behind the display is where all the magic resides in a small box which enables a virtual desktop, running on a hypervisor server in your data center. This box can be easily disconnected from the display and used as a stand–alone device offering ultimate system flexibility. Zero Technologies is more open, greener, more secure, lower cost, and more efficient than any PC. Finally, the future of computing has arrived. For more information, please visit www.myzerotech.com
About Pano Logic
Pano Logic is the leader in Zero Client Desktop Computing. Pano Logic's all-in-one hardware and software solution – Pano System - redefines the delivery and management of end user computing by radically centralizing desktop management. The Pano Logic zero client platform is a complete end-to-end solution purpose-built for desktop virtualization, simplifying the complexity and management of virtual desktops and slashing TCO by as much as 80 percent. The patent-pending Pano Direct technology eliminates the need for costly processing power at the endpoint, making it possible to have an endpoint device that contains NO processor, NO operating system, NO memory, NO drivers, NO firmware, NO software, NOR any moving parts, completely eliminating endpoint management and security breaches, while slashing energy consumption by 95 percent as compared to a PC. The Pano generation of computing, built for virtualization, can plug and play into 99 percent of all hypervisor infrastructures, including VMware, Microsoft HyperV and Citrix XenDesktop.
