Newly-Launched UAE-based Company to Turn Computing Industry on Its Head
08 Oct 2011

Zero Technologies to be Region’s First Consumer Electronics Exporter;
‘The Desktop PC is Now Dead,’ Says Firm’s CEO

Launched today, UAE-based Zero Technologies is set to take the global computing industry by storm thanks to a radically new, inexpensive, internet-based, ‘zero client’ computing system and a veritable dream-team of partners including Pano Logic, Whipsaw, and Fenwick & West.
The company will also become the Middle East’s first company to manufacture and export consumer electronics that are wholly-owned by a regional company.
“As desktop virtualization revolutionizes the world’s workplaces, UAE-based Zero Technologies is proud to represent the country’s pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit in its leadership in this critical new area of technological advancement,” said Dr. Mohamed Almur, Co-Founder of UAE-based Zero Technologies.
Consumers of ‘zero client’ technology only require a keyboard, mouse, display, and a small ‘client device’ which enables them to access and store data on a central server located anywhere in the world. With zero client technology, computing infrastructure and maintenance costs are dramatically reduced, endpoint management and security breaches are eliminated, and energy consumption is slashed by 95 percent when compared to a PC. All desktop computer power is virtualized on a centralized cloud and thus IT administrators do not have to deal with virus protections, firewalls, software installation, or OS upgrades at the endpoint. Zero runs on 99 percent of all hypervisor infrastructures, including VMware, Microsoft HyperV, and Citrix XenServer.
“The desktop PC, as we know it today, is now dead.  It’s a relic from an era when desktop virtualization technology simply did not exist,” said UAE-based Sherif Hamed, Co-Founder and CEO, Zero Technologies.

“Zero Technologies will put the Middle East on the computing map with a game-changing and aesthetically stunning application of technology that is more open, more green, more secure, lower cost, and more efficient than any desktop PC available today anywhere in the world,” added Hamed.

Zero Technologies incorporates technology developed by US desktop virtualization pioneer Pano Logic Inc.  John Kish, CEO of Pano Logic stated:  “Zero Technologies is a very forward-thinking company. By using Pano Logic’s innovative technology and building it into a convenient, ready-to-go design, they will change the way people perceive and use computers. By being simple, complete and open, Zero Technologies addresses desktop users’ needs while rescuing IT from the ever escalating overhead and inefficiency of managing and securing distributed PCs.”

Zero’s exciting Brand and Design were crafted by award winning Silicon Valley industrial design firm Whipsaw Inc..  The design centers around a sleek zero client device that can be used as a low cost stand–alone solution that connects to any monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Ethernet port.  For users seeking a more complete unified solution, the zero client clicks onto specially designed Zero Technologies monitors of varying sizes, forming an integrated, modular, compact, and beautiful computer system. It has its own new identity without being a PC.

 “Our design for Zero Technologies is all about creating product that advances the state-of-the-art while helping people do business in a more intuitive, efficient, flexible, and secure manner. Nothing is wasted, everything has a purpose and it looks stunning. I especially appreciate the groundbreaking product configuration and technology but I also admire Zero Technologies for being the first Middle Eastern company to produce such a remarkable system. The international cooperation used here between our teams to achieve something grand and positive is a model achievement,” said Dan Harden, President, CEO and Principal Designer of Whipsaw Inc..
Zero Technologies’ legal work and IP strategy are being handled by one of the United States’ top law firms, Fenwick & West, with a team lead by start-up guru Mark Stevens.
Zero Technologies will be showing its new brand and prototype design at GITEX next week at its exhibition stand in the main concourse hall.

About Zero Technologies
Zero Technologies is a new type of server-based computer system, offering a brilliant
alternative to the traditional PC. It is a Zero Client – a minimal device with no software, operating system, CPU, or memory. Zero Technologies is a modular and integrated Zero Client system, complete with displays and peripherals. At a glance ZT looks like a computer but perched above and behind the display is where all the magic resides in a small box which enables a virtual desktop, running on a hypervisor server in your data center. This box can be easily disconnected from the display and used as a stand–alone device offering ultimate system flexibility.  Zero Technologies is more open, greener, more secure, lower cost, and more efficient than any PC.  Finally, the future of computing has arrived.
