WHAT IS THE STUDENT LAB COMPETITION?
The competition is all about innovation and application. It’s an opportunity for students to develop an innovative solution by using engineering, technology, science, computing. Any software solution, gaming, application, product innovation is accepted for submission.
When: 8 – 12 October from 11am
All visitors can swing by and talk to these passionate millennials about their projects and innovations!
WHO CAN BE A PART OF THE STUDENT LAB?
Students must be 18 years old or above. Students must be a current or graduated student (undergraduate or post graduate) in the 2016 academic year calendar. They must have majored in Communications Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer & Information Science.
You will be asked to fill out a detailed application form, which will require a copy of your passport or national ID, as well as a passport. A presentation or video and a project description (not more than 2,500 words) should be included and contain a title, an executive summary, description, solution and impact of your project.
1st Prize – AED 30,000
2nd Prize – AED 20,000
3rd Prize – AED 10,000
HOW IS YOUR ENTRY JUDGED?
A judging committee from industry leaders, associations and partners will select the best 10 projects to be showcased at GITEX Technology Week
Projects will be judged on the following criteria:
- Innovations and Design (45%)
- Impact and Usability in real life (35%)
- Quality of the presentation and technical details of the solution (20%)
For the top 3 prizes, this will be determined by a combination of a live audience voting at the event (10% of the score) and the judges score (90% of the score)
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENTS
Students must be at GITEX Student Lab Hall to set up their project showcase area on 8th October 2017.
Students are recommended to be at their showcase area from 8th – 12th October 2017 if they prefer to meet with visitors and talk to them about their innovations.
Students must be available and ready to present their projects at the Student Lab area at 3:30pm on 12th of October 2017 during the Student Lab Awards ceremony.
GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK and the Judging Committee respect the students’ IP ownership. Our aim is to help students to realize their potential and create a bridge between industry leaders and students- the future industry leaders. Students have the right to negotiate a license fee under the law of UAE Ministry of Economy, Intellectual Property Protection Department (IPPD) and /or through the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) Patent Office with the companies if any company considers making use of their innovation.
